Located in Peckham, South East London, Calico is a charming late Victorian double-fronted house that still retains many of its original features, including high ceilings, cornicing, wooden floors and sash windows. The hallway features the original staircase and front door and leads into the living room, which has white painted wooden flooring, original French doors with shutters, off-white painted walls and a marble fireplace with a working wood burning stove. There is a real shabby chic feeling in this room and the French doors lead onto a terrace / patio area with table and chairs for outside dining and then on to the huge 150ft garden beyond, which has a rustic style with mature trees and a cascade of colourful plants. The garden is so large that it feels like being in the countryside, although you're in Peckham, with a large Victorian fruit barrow at the end and antique tables and chairs and iron gates throughout. There is also a lovely big front garden, with original railings and gates and the original large front door is complete with its period knocker and handle.
The interior of the house is full of vintage furniture mixed with contemporary pieces of ceramics, glass and other great props. This is in evidence in the kitchen area, which features tiled flooring, stainless steel units and a large butler's sink. Next to this is the dining room, again with white painted floorboards, also featuring a lovely old wooden table and book shelves. There is another separate living room area which has an original Victorian cast iron fireplace at one end, as well as a cast iron radiator. In addition, the downstairs also has a lovely study area, with stone floor, an old wooden desk, sash window, plants and more French doors that lead to the garden.
Upstairs, there are a selection of bedrooms, featuring darker wooden floors, sash windows, antique beds and more original fireplaces. The main bathroom is large, with a central oval bath, tiled flooring, pale painted walls and built-in shelving.
All rooms in this lovely house are available for shooting and there is free parking on the street outside for those who wish to drive. The property is also conveniently located for public transport, with several train stations within was walking distance and there are many local shops and eateries to stock up on food. The owners are happy to provide tea and coffee and there is an iron and ironing board available for use. Decorating is allowed by prior arrangement and the owners are happy to accommodate children, animals and food shoots, as well as hand-held filming.
